Alan Lee is an English book illustrator and movie conceptual designer. He was born in Middlesex, England, and studied at the Ealing School of Art. His most well-known work is his illustrations for various editions of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, The Children of Hurin, and Beren and Luthien, and his concept design work on Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings film trilogy. His other works include Faeries (with Brian Froud), The Mabinogion, Castles and Tolkien's Ring by David Day, and Merlin Dreams by Peter Dickinson.
