I was born in Norfolk in 1956 but have lived in the Fens of Cambridgeshire for over 30 years. I am a printmaker; a full-time professional wood engraver, producing illustrations, exhibition prints and bookplates (ex libris).
I am an elected member of the Society of Wood Engravers and the Cambridge Drawing Society. My work has been exhibited in many different parts of the world. I have demonstrated printmaking at "Art In Action" and was a guest artist in Chicago in 2009.
Bookplates are my speciality and my work is in demand from clients in Europe and the USA. These small graphics are designed to be pasted into the book collections of collectors or libraries. I enjoy the challenge of designing an image to make a statement about a person. As with all of my work, the design is engraved into wood and printed in one of my Victorian Albion handpresses.
My work has featured in many books and journals both in the UK and in many other parts of the world, including "Artists and Illustrators". I have illustrated work by Philip Pullman and collaborated with novelist Susan Hill to illustrate her own classic ghost story,The Woman In Black. Recent books have found me illustrating Andre Motion and John Kerats.
In August 2015, Royal Mail issued a miniature sheet of stamps featuring my hand colored wood engravings of honey bees.
Increasingly, my personal work involves local landscape and wildlife, seen on my daily walks. I also make hand-printed books.
