At a glance, the subjects of Angie Renfro’s paintings – factories, birds on telephone wires, weeds – are unapologetically straightforward. But look a moment longer and one finds profound loneliness and a sense of longing radiating through these deceptively simple veneers. Her austere compositions are painted with loose, bold strokes using a sophisticated color palette. Each work is a vignette of powerful quiet. In so deftly capturing that beauty of the familiar, yet overlooked, Renfro gives us not only moving artwork, but also stark pause: if we’ve missed this, what else are we missing? Angie received a BFA in Illustration from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco in 2002. Currently, she lives in Chicago. She has been a featured artist in both Southwest Art Magazine and American Art Collector, and her paintings are now carried in several galleries across the country. undefined
