Atonio Vázquez was born in Madrid in 1959. From a young age he was involved in the School of Arts and Crafts of Madrid, and later further developed his unique style of painting at the Círculo of Fine Art in Madrid. However, with the exception of his involvement in both prestigious Madrid institutions, Vázquez is largely self-taught as a painter. Vázquez seeks opportunities to paint the reflection of light and atmosphere and indeed, his focus on the interplay of light on his still lives is reminiscent of the 17th century Spanish tradition of Bodegónes, pioneered largely by Diego Velazquez.
Vázquez has earned over 70 awards and recognitions over the course of his career, most notably First Place in the Vila de Cedeira IX Painting Competition in Coruña, First Place in the II National Competition of Art in Higuera de la Sierra, Huelva, and Honorary Mention in the XXIV National Exposition and Competition of Painting and Drawing in Tomelloso. His individual exhibitions of note include showings at the Puchol Gallery and the Gallery D’arte Getafe, both in Madrid. The Valdescorriel Art Museum, Rafael Zabaleta Museum, and the Fine Arts Museum - Badajoz, as well as City Councils in Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Toledo, and Guadalajara have all exhibited his paintings as well. undefined
