Ben Hotchkiss is an self taught Outsider artist whose work has been exhibited in solo one man shows in New York city, and showcased in the annual Outsider art fair in Manhattan, where his work was favorably mentioned by New York Times head art critic Roberta Smith. Mr Hotchkiss`s painting was on the cover of The internationally distributed magazine Non Profit Quarterly. The Intuit Museum of Outsider Art in Chicago had his art in their collection. The prestigious outsider art gallery Ricco Maresca of Chelsea, New York has shown Ben`s paintings and written an article on his work in their online magazine “Fluence”.
Born in 1945 in New York and growing up the eldest of four sons in a family of artists in rural western Connecticut, Ben spent his later teen years coming of age in the tumultuous 1960`s . Ben began painting watercolors while in an apartment in Haight Asbury Street in San Francisco. As his painting progressed, he moved on to oils and an more bold and dynamic style that has been compared to view of deep space and microcellular photography.
Today, Mr Hotchkiss`s uniquely individual paintings incorporate intricate details with cerebral and other worldly composition. Sought after by international collectors in Europe and America, owners of his work comment that they see new aspects and meaning in his paintings as they live with them over time.
