...a painter from The Hague (1886 - 1947) - an autodidact - who liked to take off with his brushes and canvas. On a bicycle and later on his Harley Davidson with sidecar he was on the road all day. And again the next day, every day. His landscapes, cityscapes and farmyards are often sunny scenes, with a lot of playing with sun and shade. You feel the warmth that the talking women must feel. He was an impressionist artist who was also called 'the spontaneous colorist', "because of his cheerful, southern use of color and striking fast brushstrokes".
