Carl Reichert was the son of the Austrian animal and portrait painter Heinrich Reichert. Carl,born in 1836 in Vienna, was to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a painter of genre, animals and town scenes. But he is most famous for his paintings of animals especially dogs and cats. He studied at the Academy of Drawing in Gratz with J. Tunner and E. Moser. After that, he moved to Munich and then Rome and studied under Ludwig Passini and Anton Romako from 1866-1867. He returned to Austria in 1869 and worked in Vienna and later Gratz.
