Artwork Title: Marlon Brando Reading for Vogue

Marlon Brando Reading for Vogue, 1947

Cecil Beaton

When Brando arrived at the studio to sit for this unpublished portrait by Beaton in 1947, the photographer remarked that Brando looked “as if about to be stung by wasps”. Aged just 23, Brando was about to star on Broadway as Stanley Kowalski in Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire - a role he later reprised on the big screen.
