Christiaan Hendrik (Chris) Beekman (The Hague, 28 May 1887 - Blaricum, 13 January 1964); Dutch painter and draftsman.
Chris was employed as a 13-year-old at the Plateelbakkerij Rozenburg in The Hague where he continued to work until 1909.
From 1913, he lived a few years in Paris to return to the Netherlands around 1916 where he settled in Het Gooi (Eemnes). Here Beekman worked according to the principles of De Stijl.
Around 1930, Beekman went to live and work in Amsterdam, where communism and politics became more and more evident in his work.
As a board member of the artists' organization "De Onafhankelijken" and later the "Nederlandse Federatie van Beeldende Kunstenaarsverenigingen", Beekman is responsible for the interests of visual artists.
