Artwork Title: Lilies

Lilies, 1971

David Hockney

David Hockney is best known for his paintings - a 2012 retrospective broke records at the Royal Academy. Yet the British artist has been a prolific printmaker since his student days. ... When Hockney arrived at the Royal College of Art in 1959, he had little money to buy paint and canvasses. So when he heard the printmaking department gave out free materials, he decided to try his hand. Hockney, Printmaker features those earliest lithographs through to his more recent digital experiments on PCs and iPads. He made this lithograph, Lillies, in 1971.
