As a 7-year-old boy Dirk Beitema saw his father make beautiful drawings sometimes. Mother had a particular interest in art and culture, she was at that time a member of “Openbaar Kunstbezit”, and took him along to an exhibition of Jan Stroosma at the Pier Pander museum in the Prinsentuin in Leeuwarden, as an 8-year-old child. The beautiful Frisian landscapes in black and white are still engraved in his memory today. Mother was proud that she could say that Jan Stroosma was an ex-classmate of hers, and that he had become a real artist. Possibly his interest for visual arts was peaked indirectly back then. Beitema made his first oil painting at the age of 13, to a print by Willem Roelofs, “De brug te Doesburg”. (https://www.mooileeuwarden.nl/en/te-zien/atelier-dirk-beintema) undefined
