"Self-taught Dirk Smorenberg is regarded as one of the few Art Deco painters of the Netherlands. He initially lived and worked in Alkmaar and Bergen, thereafter spent time in England (1910) and the United States (1911), and lived in Amsterdam and Almelo (1923). In 1924 he settled permanently in Oud-Loosdrecht, on the Horndijk. His most successful period was around 1910 to 1925. He painted figures, flowers and, in particular, decorative landscapes and water lilies, drawing on the abundant water of the North Holland landscape for inspiration. Smorenberg was an independent and original painter. For several of his works he designed and made a suitably matching frame." http://www.simonis-buunk.com/collection/details/Dirk_Smorenberg_16215.aspx undefined
