Little is known about her life, except that she attended the Philadelphia School of Art and Design for Women from 1877 to 1878. From 1878 to 1881, she enrolled in Life Classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts where she was likely a student of Milne Ramsey.
Seven years later, in 1888, she exhibited her work for the first time in the Pennsylvania Academy's annual exhibition, and of the six paintings she entered during the next two years, five were still lifes and "Milne Ramsey in His Studio" was the only figure work.
