This is one of a group of watercolors by Estella Canziani in the Birmingham Collection. They are particularly valuable in providing documentary information on the clothes and associated lifestyle of the local people living in remote villages in Northern Italy. This watercolor study shows painted ox horns from S.Stefano (i), red fannel decoration hung between ox horns and arranged over the face of the oxen (ii), feathers dyed red, green and prurple, Cocullo (iii), thread with colored knots to bind around the wrists and necks, Scanno and Cucullo.
