Evert Jan Boks (April 18, 1838, Beekbergen, NL – June 14, 1914, Antwerp, Belgium); Dutch painter.
Boks was from a wealthy family. His father, Derk Boks owned a paper mill and had seven children. Evert-Jan attended school in Apeldoorn and then worked in a tax office.
He studied at the Hooge Burgerschool in Het Loo, was a short-term pupil of Nicolaas Pieneman in Amsterdam and in 1858 enrolled at the Academy of Antwerp, where he became a student of Nicaise De Keyser.
He specialized in a sophisticated technique in portraits and genre scenes, especially salon scenes and scenes from family life, often with a comic note. He worked closely with two Antwerp art dealers: Albert D'Huyvetter Sr. and his son Albert Jr., who both focused on the American art market, and also with the art dealer Delahaye.
He was presented regularly at the Paris Salon.
