Garrett Price, an artist and cartoonist for The New Yorker magazine, died Sunday at Norwalk Hospital after a brief illness. He was 82 years old and a longtime resident of Westport, CT. Mr. Price's cartoons and covers appeared in The New Yorker, Colliers and other weekly magazines over the last 50 years, and a collection entitled Drawing Room Only was published recently by Coward‐McCann. His work was also well represented in The New Yorker Anniversary Albums. Son of a Wyoming horse-and-buggy doctor, Mr. Price grew up on a farm at Saratoga, WY, where he began sketching animals and people at an early age. He attended the University of Wyoming, which now has a library of his work, and subsequently the Chicago Art Institute.... He began his career as a reporter-cartoonist for The Kansas City Star and later did illustrations and a full‐page comic strip for The Chicago Tribune. In 1933 he developed the half-page Sunday strip White Boy, about the adventures of a young boy who is captured by a tribe of Native Americans, eventually living peacefully with them and learning their ways. About halfway through its run, the strip suddenly switched both its locale and time period to a dude ranch in the 1930s, dropping almost all the characters and situations that had been developed thus far and changing its name to Skull Valley.
