Gerhard (Gerrit) Christiaan Haverkamp (Amsterdam, June 15, 1872 - Baarn, Dec. 16, 1926); Dutch painter and graphic artist.
Haverkamp received his education probably at the Felix Meritis Arts School in Amsterdam. Then he was advised by the etcher-lithographer Maurits Willem (Mau) van der Valk (1857-1935). In terms of painting, he was self-taught. He was a member of the artist association Arti et Amicitiae (Arti, Amsterdam) and from the Vereeniging to Promotion of Graphic Arts 'The Graphics'.
Gerrit Haverkamp painted mostly with oil paint and watercolor. In his drawings he used mostly pencil, black chalk or East Indian ink. His etching put emphasis on the graphic work. The great detail in his work demonstrates careful observation.
Topics are mostly landscape and architecture. Thus he made cityscapes in Amsterdam, Leiden and Antwerp with port views and canals. Farms and farmlands are known from the countryside, but also forest and dune landscapes. He also made drawings of Soest, the Vinkeveense Plassen, a farm at Abcoude and a beach in Katwijk. Especially the skies in his landscapes give a spatial suggestion.
Another theme was churches and church interiors, for example, From Katwijk-Binnen and the Pieterskerk in Leiden.
Although Haverkamp also made some portraits, people and animals at work are rarely more than filling.
