Hans Finsler (born December 7, 1891 in Heilbronn, Germany); Swiss photographer and teacher at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Zurich. He is one of the most important representatives of New Photography and New Objectivity in Photography.
With his teaching activities in Halle and Zurich, he contributed to the development of still lifephotography, which broke away from traditional value standards and followed completely the laws of the thing and the photograph itself:
I asked myself, "Why must you photograph things according to certain formal laws?" Before my attempts, these things were photographed improperly by a professional photographer according to the then customary template. My first attempts no longer exist. They were rejected, even within the school. They were too unfamiliar. But photography in connection with the objects to be taken was for me a fascinating discovery. If I had completed a photographic apprenticeship, I would never have had the same results. Forcibly, I became a photographer. Pupils came, the first class was created for subject photography at an art education school.
