James Bernardin is an award winning graphics artist who combines traditional mediums with progressive thinking to create illustrations that are both arresting and accessible. To date, Jim has illustrated over 20 children's books, including the best selling Legend of the Candy Cane by Zondervan publishing.
His curiosity, love of drawing, and strong design sense (which began before he graduated with honors from Art Center College of Design in 1991) have always led him in the direction of children's literature. In an Amazon.com customer review of "Too Many Monsters", by Eve Bunting, Jim's illustrations were described as: "amazing... mystifying... vibrant and captivating! My daughter (age 3) has made me read this book four or five times each night and stops me from turning the page just so she can stare at the expressions..."
In addition to children's picture books, Jim jumps at the chance to do book covers, graphic design, and other young adult material - he has just completed the eighth book in a Scholastic series for young readers called The Calendar Club Mysteries. Other recent publications include a beautiful new rendition of the classic Louisa May Alcott short story, An Old Fashioned Thanksgiving released Fall 2005 and an original children's book Jim co-conceived as well as illustrated, called "Go Back To Bed!" for Carolrhoda Books which was released Spring of 2006.
