"Jan Adam Kruseman enrolled at the Drawing Academy when he was 15 years old and received lessons there from his cousin Cornelis Kruseman. Between 1822 and 1824, Kruseman worked in Brussels and Paris. He painted historical and religious pieces, but achieved his fame primarily with portraits. He painted portraits for the nobility and wealthy middle class, but also for the royal family. One of Kruseman's pupils was the painter Josef Israëls." http://collectie.boijmans.nl/en//collection/1426-%28ok%29 undefined
