Because I consider all my paintings as self-portraits, It is very important that I recognize myself in my models. A photo shoot takes place. After that a sketch is made, which is very detailed. I put this sketch on a wooden panel. The painting is made with very many thin layers of acrylic paint. Every layer is more detailed. The effect is a very realistic portrait with his own identity. The unusual way my work is cut out makes it even more recognizable. All the unnecessary is stripped of with the intention to maintain only the essential. My paintings are interpreted in many ways. I think this is very special and I do not feel the desire to interfere in this meaning. A painting can mean eternal sorrow to one person, while an other viewer finds hope in the same painting. Both opinions are legitimate; of course, these are the feelings of the spectator. Finally I want to say something about my own work: It strikes me that there is always a certain loneliness and desolation in my paintings.
