Young British Artist Jenny Saville is known for her monumental oil paintings of naked women, rendered in a figurative style recalling Lucian Freud and Peter Paul Rubens. Frequently obese and distorted by angle, Saville's bodies confront traditional ideas of femininity and beauty. In her collaboration with fashion photographer Glen Luchford (noted for his campaigns for Prada and editorial work in magazines like Vogue and i-D), the artists create a new form of self-portrait. The Close Contact (1995–96) series, inspired by Saville's observations of cosmetic surgery, comprise photographs of Saville's body pressed under glass to reveal beautiful, grotesque variations in color and topography. undefined
