Jose Angel Toirac was born in 1966 in Guantánamo, Cuba. He graduated from the Academy San Alejandro in 1985 and from the Institute Superior of Art in Havana in 1990. His work focuses on history and memory, with a particular interest in the glance, the range of visual habits that condition our conception of the world. His work deals incisively with current political issues in Cuba and questions traditional historical narratives presented by political powers in the country. On a daily basis, he archives and recycles images from the press, history books, magazines, art documents, and original pieces of art. His artistic method is to recycle all this material, using it as ready-made, quoting it, and parodying it according to the concrete ideas of each work or series.
Meira Marrero (b. 1969 in Havana, Cuba) is his wife. undefined
