Judy Ledgerwood usually uses simple geometric forms. Circles are connected like strings of pearls or combined into flower-like patterns, rectangles bent into rhombuses and placed one above the other. The horizontal or vertical structures created spread across the surface. The serial arrangement makes Ledgerwood's works appear ornamental. Sometimes they are reminiscent of patterns on cloth. But her circles, rectangles and rhombuses do not have strict, stencil-like rapport. Instead, they bow to the rhythm of vigorous, artistic gesture, to the uniqueness of each individual form and the interactions of the glaring, often luminous colours. In her artistic work, Judy Ledgerwood explores the impact and materiality of paint, and how form and structure space are created from colour.
