Misdirection - Obscurity - Manipulation
Mensa means table in Latin, and the constellation references a curious mountain near Cape Town, South Africa. Table Mountain has its own local mythology which connects the flat-topped, cloud-shrouded mountain and the unlucky souls that braved the waters where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. Table Mountain’s magnetic pull was said to have veered ships off-course, running them aground against the rocky coastline. There, lost sailors joined the ghosts of lepers, gnomes, and other vengeful spirits at the top of the flat mountain, where they continue to lure others to their doom.
In an upright reading of this card, veiled communication, purposeful misdirection, and even getting lost on the highway are all signs that Mensa is at work. In addition to eerie “mistakes” and cloaked intentions, Mensa may exert its power through mental haziness, making it hard to think clearly. In any case, it is important to clear the table of any pressing business and wait for the clouds to dissipate before making any serious decisions. This cloudiness may also come in the form of clumsiness or naivety.
Reversed, one may be at the mercy of the ghouls of everyday life. Whether or not a person believes that the spirits of Table Mountain walk amongst us, there are plenty of matters at work that a person can’t perceive until they appear out of thin air. Hidden intentions, scams, or individuals looking to take advantage of another are all very real dangers. In order to avoid falling prey to their whims, a person should try to stay alert and focused, and do not be fooled into a false sense of security with anyone looking to get your attention, particularly when you are navigating new or unfamiliar territory.
