The image originated in a Malmö hotel room, where Tuymans was staying in 2009 during the setup of the Against the Day exhibition.
The curtains filter the city lights that are darkened by the winter night: street lanterns and headlights of passing cars project blind spots.
Tuymans translates this image into a palette of toxic colours.
