Artwork Title: Mount Mansfield, Vermont

Mount Mansfield, Vermont, 1935

Luigi Lucioni

An early and important landscape by this noted Vermont painter. From the vantage point of a rocky outcrop, the viewer overlooks a Vermont farmhouse and barn complex. In the middle ground, a patchwork of hayfields and distant farms leads the eye to the imposing profile of Mount Mansfield in the distance. (http://www.antiquescollaborative.com/items/1276674/Luigi-Lucioni-painting-Mount-Mansfield-Vermont) In 1931, he was commissioned to paint a Vermont landscape. While it was not the first time that he had been to the state, he was struck by the beauty of the mountains and their resemblance to northern Italy during the trip, and began visiting regularly. He bought a farmhouse near Manchester in 1939, and from then on divided his time between Vermont and New York City. [http://www.dcmooregallery.com/artists/luigi-lucioni/featured-works?view=slider#5]
