Marie Spartali Stillman was a prominant Pre-Raphaelite painter. Of Greek descent, she was raised in England, becoming a pupil of Ford Madox Brown in 1864. She was a prolific artist with a sixty-year career. In addition to being an artist, she modeled for several Pre-Raphaelite painters such as Dante Gabriel Rossetti and John Spencer Stanhope, as well as photographer Julia Margaret Cameron.
