aka Marina M. (Marmozh)
I am a full-time artist working in my home studio. My preferences in art are rooted in the St. Petersburg’s tradition of painting, which developed from the ideas of the Russian Avant-Garde. In my childhood and youth I was fortunate to study under Solomon Levin who was a well known art teacher/artist in St. Petersburg (former Leningrad, my home city). I have lived in US since 1998. I am a member of Associate Artists of Pittsburgh and show my works at exhibitions and Pittsburgh’s galleries.

My art reflects my impressions of the surrounding world. I often use my sketches and photos as a starting point. The important part is to find the motif which reflects my mood and triggers my imagination at the moment. I work in different media: painting, paper cut, collage, monotype, watercolor and mixed media. Every medium, at some time, is my absolutely favorite and I love to explore how far I can go with it. When I feel stuck, I usually change the media. I prefer to work quickly keeping my first impression unaffected by overthinking while focusing on the most significant features and avoiding unnecessary details.
