Artwork Title: Portrait of a Woman

Portrait of a Woman, 1881-1883

Mary Cassatt

Mary Cassatt's subjects were mainly women and children. Her emphasis was less on character and more on the reflections and shadows on skin and costumes for which she had the greatest feeling and understanding. This unfinished, freely painted portrait reveals her interest in Japanese prints in its strong outlines and bold format. (http://hoocher.com/Mary_Cassatt/Mary_Cassatt.htm)
