About the painting: After years of service, the makeshift concoction of a clothesline behind Margarets’s house finally fell down. It doesn’t matter, as nowadays she dries the socks and school uniforms of her grandchildren and great grandchildren in the big modern dryer in her house. Still, at almost ninety, some ways of housekeeping are never completely given up, and on the first warm day of spring the winter quilts are washed and hung outside to dry. When asked how she is, Miss Margaret’s face always glows as she responds, “I am blessed.”
