Mu Lei (穆磊) is a Chinese painter and multimedia artist born 1984 in Jiangsu Province, China. Having graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Chongqing's Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2007, Mu is currently based in Beijing as a professional artist. His works often create a de-rationalized version of reality, featuring sensual and enigmatic figures that are rich in detail and movement. In addition to his works of oil on canvas, Mu Lei produces video works and interactive installations.
Mu Lei’s works have been featured in solo exhibitions in Wereldmuseum Rotterdam, Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei, and Audi City Beijing, and notable exhibitions include "Future Pass" (54th Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition, Venice, Italy) and the Animamix Biennial (Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai). His works have also been featured in a range of publications in China and abroad, including Harper's Bazaar Art, Vogue, Architectural Digest, and Newsweek, and Mu Lei has produced work in conjunction with notable brands such as Audi, Estée Lauder, and Nike. Mu Lei’s fall 2015 exhibition "Wonderment" at Art+ Shanghai Gallery will mark Mu Lei's first solo exhibition in Shanghai. undefined
