Nikolay Ivanovich Kasatkin.
Not to be confused with Nikolay Alekseyevich Kasatkin (born 1895), also a Russian painter.
The method of Moscow painter Nikolai Ivanovich Kasatkin (born 1932) was developed at the turn of the 1960s-1970s in the circle of E. Bulatov and O. Vasiliev.
At first glance, the painter remains true to the traditions of landscape painting and nature depiction. However, he in fact reevaluates them, utilizing the experiences of photorealism and the conceptual practices of the latter half of the 20th century.
As such, a kind of double-optics or double-image effect emerges in Kasatkin’s compositions, as each painting contains within itself another work, and the individual sight of the painter becomes integrated into “the collective eye”.
