Artwork Title: Springtime Along the North Shore Line

Springtime Along the North Shore Line, 1926

Oscar Rabe Hanson

This vibrant spring image of sheep grazing was designed by Oscar Rabe Hanson. The North Shore line was an electric railway running between the downtowns of Chicago & Milwaukee. In the 1920s, 40 trains a day made this speedy journey. By 1963, commuting changes and corporate tax losses made it worth more dead than alive and the line was abandonded.
