Peter Butler is an accomplished North Carolina artist with more than a quarter century of painting experience. He earned a BFA degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1976, and is represented in private and public collections throughout the country, including the Duke Children's Hospital in Durham.
Swimmers and swimming pools are a recurring theme in Butler's work. A former competitive swimmer himself, Butler considers the water to be an even playing field for people. He finds joy in swimming and aims to convey that through his paintings.
Cows are another common theme in Butler's paintings. He finds their blank stares to convey a human-like quality, almost as if they are a benign version of ourselves. undefined
