My paintings and drawings have always dealt with stretching the boundaries of realism, expanding into magical realism. Through my work I create windows into uncertain environments; where the natural world collides with that of the urban, manmade one, and elements of danger are quiet and beautiful. While some works are more impressionistic and immediate, others are more articulated representations of these places, as if they were dioramas depicting a moment in history. Though figures are not always present, these spaces are often occupied by human life. And while my work feels somewhat escapist, it also confronts feelings of loneliness and destruction. The origins of my work are rooted in personal memories, fantasies, and sensations; living in the city while feeling a symbiotic relationship with the endangered natural world, and longing to be elsewhere & when.
