It is with her work Radioactive Cats that Sandy Skoglund is remarked in 1980. Since, she has specialized in her fantasy images featuring strong contrasting tones and playing with forms and motifs that seem to crush the human subjects. Her incredibly elaborate sets within which everything is handmade by the photographer depict a surrealist almost subconscient world, mingling reality and artificiality. The American photographer provokes a feeling of invasion and suffocation because of the numerous repetitions and the reinvention of the space. The multiplication of one unique subject acts like a menace towards the spectator but also the human in the picture whose place is completely denied. By doing so, Sandy Skoglund questions the place of men on Earth and how they interact with society, nature and consumership.
