Sharon Poliakine was born in 1964 and graduated from Israel’s Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. Since 2007, she has served as Head of the Art department at the University of Haifa. From 1987 to 2006 she worked as a print artist at the Jerusalem Print Workshop and is renowned as an expert in the art of engraving. She transfers the lines of images to her vividly colorful canvases using a variety of self-devised methods, creating a relationship between painting and print. She sees herself as “painting’s worker,” as one who must forcefully press the roller into the surface of the paper, charging her drawing with a central tension that exists between the physical action and the potential appearance of the spirit. It is in this space that Sharon Poliakine’s art occurs, and where she builds models for her personal observation long into the future.
