Simeon Nijenhuis (1969, Zaandijk) graduated in 1993 in field of drawing / graphics from the Academy Minerva in Groningen. He became known for a series of large etchings of cathedrals. In 1999 he started to focus on oil painting.
He paints vivid impressionistic still lifes and interior paintings with a tangible atmosphere. Transforming reality, which creates a metaphor, is for him the most important in visual art and where he succeeds wonderfully well. He approaches imaginative color shades, fabric expressions or special light traps on an object emotionally and it is often the reason for making a painting and in which he also uses the paint structure, so that an optimum expressive power is achieved. He is still developing himself, he wants to show subjects that fascinate him as vividly as possible and he uses subtle shades of color. He continues until the right dynamic versus harmony is found and translates more and more his own vision. A painter who lives up to Northern realism with his wonderfully rough, lively and colorful paint strokes.
