Born in Shanghai, Wang Lang（王浪）graduated from the Shanghai Arts and Crafts College in 1988. After graduation he traveled to Xinjiang and Tibet to work herding sheep and later took up residence as a sculptor and muralist at the Lushan Monastery in Jiangxi province. In 1996 he returned to Shanghai and after several years of painting began working in advertising and design. Wang moved to Beijing in 2005 where he currently resides as an artist. Wang Lang provides an aesthetic platform to re-interpret the transformations of society by compelling audiences to rethink the characters and controversies of 'newsworthy' topics and persons from a new angle. Wang expands his focus on recent news events to include persons and situations from China's not-so-distant history. "What we photograph is the visual word's cultural scene. Today scenes are already common forms. We found this form, which enters into politics, business, education, religion and all the details of our lives, becoming a common language. Contemporary art has the same kind of disorder. Personal freedom and aesthetic principles are multiplied; mediums and ideas become conceptual.
