American painter Zoey Frank was born in Boulder, Colorado. Her early inclination to create was developed by a primary and secondary education in the Waldorf school system. After studying Renaissance art at the age of 13 she knew she wanted to pursue a career as an artist, and began to daydream about being an apprentice in Raphael’s studio in the 1500s. Years later when she discovered Juliette Aristide’s Classical Atelier a Gage Academy of Art in Seattle, it resonated as the contemporary equivalent of the Old Masters’ studios - a place where she could learn the skills necessary to create powerful and lasting work.
Zoey completed four years of training in drawing and painting within the Atelier. She works primarily from life and is captivated by both the idiosyncrasies of the individual objects and people she paints, and the larger archetypes that they can represent. Some of her influences include Rembrandt, Vermeer, Sargent and Wyeth. She is currently working from her studio in Boulder. http://www.tuttartpitturasculturapoesiamusica.com/2014/05/Zoey-Frank.html
The shift in Frank’s ideology and paintings came from a desire to be more inclusive in her imagery. “With my new work, I wanted my process to feel more immediate and open,” says the artist. Frank often jumps right into her work, painting directly on the canvas and adjusting the composition— landscape, still life or portrait— as she observes changes
Her figurative work, some reaching up to 5 feet in width like Kirsten, is artfully arranged and crafted. Layers of paint from earlier in the process show through, creating a mesmerizing effect Frank has dubbed a palimpsest. Viewers will feel like they lived the same experience and are now reliving it through a hazy memory.
More modest in scale, Frank’s still lifes explore color relationships by infusing bright colors into her otherwise neutral palette.... (http://haynesgalleries.com/hgSite/pages/newsAndEvents/newsAndEvents-FrankExplorationsDiscoveries.html) undefined
