Zsolt Hlinka is a Hungarian photographer based on Budapest. He started in press industry, becoming leader and co-owner of a publication, though photography was in his mind all along. “I am fascinated by the urban mood and evening lights. But landscapes with strange mood also seize me by the eye and thoughts. I am looking for geometry and symmetry obsessively in each composition.” he explains and this is evident by this series, 100 Year Old Houses.
The wonderful installations reside at Nagykörút, the Grand Boulevard of Budapest. As Hlinka identifies symmetry one of the most significant elements of photography, the perspective provided by his photos is different. “As the buildings are framing the sky, the contrast is getting maximized between geometric, sealed networks of architectural forms and the unsubstantial, infinite space of the sky. Looking at the accurately constructed, central photographs it feels like the buildings are tunnels driving to the infinity of the sky” he adds. The result is impressive.
