Zygmunt Zaradkiewicz is not a chatterbox... Or perhaps he is one at home (his wife Joanna will know better about this), but never in public. It is as if he was carefully putting into effect in his life the idea contained in his well-known and much-awarded cartoon which presents a ‘villa’ (or detached house, as it was once called) with video surveillance cameras watching all the neighborhood and with a pleasant-looking design drawing upon tradition, except that there are no windows and no doors, in fact - no openings of any kind whatsoever. This ensures maximum security to the inhabitants and full secrecy concerning everything inside. Zaradkiewicz’s house in Izabelin has doors and windows and is open to guests, but the principle of keeping its inhabitants’ lives secret still holds. Rarely does anyone avoid publicity as carefully as the master of the house – though when he reads this text, he will most likely bridle at this remark of mine and mutter that I am just imagining things....
