Artwork Title: Blue Blanket

Blue Blanket, 1990

Catherine Murphy

"The blue blanket ...[is] all about rectangles. But what I compare them to, with great embarrassment... is poems. Certainly in my relationship to the subject and form they’re like poems. I’m not deriding what other people have done before me, but I want to be respectful of reality. Reality is not just there for my own greedy use. If I were to take the blue blanket and paint it over and over, it would be at the mercy of my formalist agenda."
