冬至 Dongzhi (Winter Solstice)
Dongzhi is the extreme of winter, has the longest night and shortest day. Usually it’s between 12/21-12/22. In 2017 it’ll be 12/22.
First pentad: Earthworms form knots. Many earthworms gather to hibernate.
Second pentad: Moose’s antlers fall off. Check Xiazhi (Summer Solstice) for explanation.
Last pentad: Water deep under the ground start to move, because of the Yang energy starts to increase.
I have a wolf for Dongzhi, for the wolf gives a cool and strong impression, which I think should work well for the extreme of winter. For veggies I choose broccoli, also a winter veggie, and I turned it into the scarf-like fur. But the color for it I didn’t use broccoli green (and makes it so hard to tell it comes from a broccoli), instead I used red, which comes from a Taiwanese tradition dish in Dongzhi: rice balls. Dongzhi is a very important holiday in Chinese culture.
