Artwork Title: Lilies

Lilies, 1932-1936

Gluck (Hannah Gluckstein)

This all-white arrangement reflects the influence of Constance Spry, which in turn chimed with the 1930s vogue for all-white interior schemes. Like Spry’s arrangements, Gluck’s vivid and meticulous flower portraits became centerpieces in some of the most fashionable interiors of the day. Another lily painting was commissioned by Lord Vernon as the sole artwork to decorate the drawing room of his newly built London home. It was set into the wall in a frame designed and patented by the artist to immaculately meld into the surrounding décor.
