For her shoot with Richard Avedon, O’Keeffe wore her black 1955 Knize overcoat. The images in these two contact prints are reminiscent of earlier photographers’ compositions. Stieglitz’s emphasis on O’Keeffe’s expressive hands, and Van Vechten’s focus on the back of her head. The Avedon photographs on view here have never been published and are thus little known.
