The oldest brother, who brags about the wand, is murdered in his sleep. The middle brother uses his ability to bring back the woman he loved, but she is never fully alive and he kills himself to be with her. The youngest brother is never found by Death, staying hidden under his cloak. Later, as an old man, he leaves the cloak to his son and greets Death as an old friend, leaving with him as an equal.
