小寒 Xiaohan (Minor cold) Xiaohan is usually the coldest term in a year, even colder than Dahan. Usually it’s between 1/5-1/6. In 2017 it’ll be 1/5. First pentad: Geese heading north. Second pentad: Magpie starts to build the nest. Last pentad: Pheasant starts to sing. This one is actually the first one I did. I chose the magpie form the pentad as the animal for Xiaohan. In the beginning I didn’t try to blend in multiple elements, I just choose glebionis coronaria leaves as the veggie, a popular veggie for hot pot. And the color decision was also simple, because it’s cold so give it cold color.
